The annual conference and exhibition, organized by the European Association of Geologists and Engineers (EAGE) in association with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), brings together representatives of the petroleum industry and manufacturers of the latest technologies in the field of geology and exploration. The main topic of this year's discussions was natural gas production in the context of supporting the energy transition. Since natural gas is the most environmentally friendly fossil fuel, its importance as a transitional fuel in the decarbonization process is growing significantly. Europe's desire to diversify its energy supply sources and finally abandon Russian energy and fuel is further driving the need to increase gas production.

In search of new ways of increasing gas production, global companies are shifting their focus from offshore projects to combined and non-structural onshore plays and prospects previously left off due to the complexity of their exploration. The current level of technological development makes it possible. Along with the expertise of geoscientists and a comprehensive integrated approach, the key element of success is a qualitatively new level of field seismic acquisition and data processing technologies. Nodal and low-frequency seismic technologies are steadily replacing legacy cable systems, which results in a much higher density and resolution of data, as well as the ability to identify previously missed prospects and reduce exploration risks.

According to Ivan Gafych, Director of Exploration and Prospective Development, over the past 3‑4 years, DTEK Oil&Gas has already made significant progress in the exploration and development of non-structural traps using its assets. This is where the oil and gas business sees significant prospects for further development of gas production.

"DTEK Oil&Gas continues bringing the latest technologies to Ukraine and implementing them. This time, as part of the event, we held working meetings with manufacturers of nodal systems and preliminarily agreed to develop and implement a pilot project for a 3D seismic survey in Ukraine using wireless technology. This will allow us to search and explore deep and ultra-deep unconventional and non-structural oil and gas prospects even more efficiently," Ivan Gafych added.
