The First Billion Cubic Meters of Gas from the Machukhske Field is Extracted

In December 2017, gas production from DTEK Oil&Gas’ Machukhske Field had reached one billion cubic meters since the start of its operation. The Machukhske Field is one of the most challenging in Ukraine: its reservoir pressure is more than 1,000 atm, and the temperatures reach 150 to 180°C. Producing depths range from 5,200 to 6,000 m.

The Machukhske Field was opened in 1983, but it was impossible to explore it then due to the challenging mining and geological conditions. Two wells were drilled between 2008 and 2014, and one of the flowrates was estimated to be one billion cubic meters of gas per day.

Ivan Gafych, Exploration and Prospective Development Director, emphasized, “Modern technologies played a valuable role in DTEK Oil&Gas’ successful exploration of the Machukhske Field. These included 3D modelling, wide azimuth technique, gas-hydrodynamic survey and fracture analysis. These technologies allowed to optimize the program of drilling and exploration of hydrocarbon accumulations and discover a new prospective block similar to the field’s reserves in terms of resource potential.”

In 2017, DTEK Oil&Gas reconstructed the Machukhska gas treatment plant, increasing its capacity from one to two million cubic meters of gas per day. It is connected with a new drilling program for the Machukhske Field to be launched by DTEK Oil&Gas in 2018.
