A discussion of the most important aspects of occupational health and safety during gas and oil extraction was held in Poltava on the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. The scientific and technical conference was organised by DTEK Oil&Gas, the Department of the State Labour Service in the Poltava Oblast, and Yuriy Kondratyuk Poltava National Technical University. Newfolk Oil&Gas Consulting Centre was an information partner.
The conference titled “The improvement of collection and use of occupational health and safety data” brought together representatives of more than 30 gas production and service companies, government bodies, and academic establishments.

The specialists discussed methods of prevention of workplace injuries in the oil and gas extraction industry, introduction of international experience in OHS management, psychological and other aspects of occupational safety, and new developments in benefits and compensations for working in hazardous conditions.
The legal framework generated a heated discussion. The legal framework was inherited from the Soviet era, and has to be brought in line with the European standards without any further delay. This will allow eliminating a number of problems that exist in the operations of gas extraction companies and will raise OHS standards in Ukraine.

“Safe and comfortable working conditions for our employees is a top priority for our company. Every year we invest millions of hryvnyas into the development of this area. Our achievements in OHS were confirmed by international certificates OHSAS 18001: 2007 and ISO 14001: 2004. Moreover, such conferences are yet another step toward responsible gas extraction,” stated Dmytro Meleshenko, director of the department for OHS and Environment of PJSC Naftogazvydobuvannya (DTEK Oil&Gas).
