DTEK Oil&Gas has implemented an integrated system of digital field twins

Oil and gas03 November 2021
DTEK Oil&Gas has implemented the only integrated system of digital field twins in Ukraine. The Semyrenkivske field was the first to be fully included in the integrated system.

The solution was developed and implemented as part of the MODUS program for digital transformation of DTEK. It includes a hydrodynamic model, a model of multiphase fluid movement along the wellbore, a model of a surface infrastructure for the collection and treatment of hydrocarbon products. Previously, all models were used separately, and their data were compared and interpreted manually. Now DTEK Oil&Gas can simulate any processes at the field virtually and receive immediately data on changes in parameters in any part of the system which unites the subsurface and surface parts.  This allows the company to optimize the development of the field, extending its life cycle, as well as to model all objects at the stage of their design and, if necessary, adjust projects.

According to DTEK's IT Director Dmitry Osyka, this is the only digital solution of this kind in the oil and gas industry of Ukraine.  “Virtual simulations can be carried out both during the operation of the field and at the stage of facilities’ design to test its operation in various conditions and modes. This is one of three projects in the “Digital Field” block of the digital transformation program of DTEK. And this is a further proof of qualitative changes taking place in Ukrainian energy sector, not least thanks to the efforts of the company”, Dmitry Osyka noted.

The architecture of the solution is designed in such a way that specialists who are responsible for different stages of modeling and are located in different offices of the company can simultaneously work on one digital twin of the well. Heavy computing processes run on separate dedicated computing resources, allowing employees to continue working on a project during the simulation process. Data can be accessed instantly from any computer, at any time, from any office, as well as quickly shared with colleagues, without wasting time on physical copying.

In addition, the implemented technology increases the level of information security and minimizes the risk of data loss. One of the advantages is an increase in the speed of calculations and modeling of deposits and, as a result, an increase in efficiency.

“DTEK Oil&Gas is a technology leader in the Ukrainian oil and gas industry and implements technologies that have no analogues or were not previously represented in Ukraine. Digitalization is a critical aspect in technological evolution of the business. We have invested more than UAH 300 mln in the implementation of digital technologies. An integrated system of digital field twins will allow us not only to optimize field development and increase operational efficiency, but also raise our safety and environmental standards even higher”, Igor Shchurov, CEO of DTEK Oil&Gas, said.
