New Technologies for Repairing Gas Wells Have Been Discussed in Poltava
Poltava hosted an international scientific and technical conference dedicated to the new technology of well repairing – snubbing. It can boost the gas and oil production rate in Ukraine.
The conference was organized by DTEK Oil&Gas, Yuriy Kondratiuk Poltava National Technical University (PolNTU). Newfolk Oil and Gas Consulting Centre acted as an information partner.
The snubbing technology reduces gas loss during well repair and shortens the work timeframe. Most importantly, it minimises adverse consequences on hydrocarbon deposits usually caused by the well killing during conventional repairs.
Snubbing is actively used in developed countries. But it has been used only occasionally in Ukraine, because this technology requires cutting-edge imported equipment.
During the conference, Ukrainian and foreign experts discussed the use of snubbing in severe mining and geological conditions of our country, the state regulation of such operations, and industrial safety issues.
First Deputy Chairman of Regional State Administration of Poltava Andrii Pisotskyi, Director for Production and Processing of Hydrocarbons of DTEK Oil&Gas Oleksii Raptanov, Principal of PoltNTU, Honoured Worker of Education of Ukraine, Prof. Volodymyr Onishchenko participated in the conference.
Researchers from Yuriy Kondratyuk Poltava National Technical University, Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas, Ukrainian Oil and Gas Institute, representatives of service oil and gas companies Halliburton, Balance Point Control, Endeavour, Pilot Drilling Technologies, Geo Well Services Region, Geosintez Engineering, LIKVO, State Labour Service senior officials shared their opinion and experience.
“In this difficult time for the industry, higher operational efficiency is the task of utmost priority for each gas producer in Ukraine. DTEK Oil&Gas has been constantly looking for new solutions, new technologies, new approaches for producing gas efficiently, environmentally-friendly and safely. Snubbing can be one of the tools that will help to keep and increase production volumes both by our company and the entire industry,” said Oleksii Raptanov, Director of DTEK Oil&Gas Department for production and processing of hydrocarbons.
“In recent years, our University has become the main platform of Poltava Region where the efforts of the scientific community, business and government are united to develop the oil and gas production. Ukraine has one of the biggest gas reserves in Europe, but much smaller rates of its extraction. We have great prospects and we need to introduce new technologies today and upgrade the skills of the industry’s workers in order to capitalise on them. We already see the first shifts that inspire optimism about the future of the oil and gas industry and Ukraine’s energy independence,” concluded Volodymyr Onishchenko, Principal of Yuriy Kondratyuk Poltava National Technical University.
